WELCOME TO MARWENCOL
Photographs by Mark Hogancamp

After being beaten into a brain-damaging coma by five men outside a bar, Mark built a 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. Mark populated the town he dubbed “Marwencol” with dolls representing his friends and family and created life-like photographs detailing the town’s many relationships and dramas. Playing in the town and photographing the action helped Mark to recover his hand-eye coordination and deal with the psychic wounds from the attack. Through his homemade therapy, Mark was able to begin the long journey back into the “real world”, both physically and emotionally – something he continues to struggle with today.

SOUR – Hibi no Neiro
Music by SOUR
This reminds me of drawings i used to make with my friends. Folding the paper in 4 squares, and every square was a part of a face. You would draw on one square and hand the paper over to someone else, so everyone drew one part of the face. This would make weird faces, just like in a part of this video. You would start making monster while you knew someone drew part of a normal face, or make scarred pirates and masked superheroes. If I find some at my parents’ attic I will scan and post them here.

Waking Sleeping Beauty
Directed by Don Hahn
The Little Mermaid was one of my fave movies as a kid. When i was sick, and was allowed to lay with blankets on the couch, I would watch a disney movie. The songs, the strange underwater world, the scary octopus I would relive it all again and again. I grew up when Disney was a powehouse, turning out acclaimed movie after another, never knowing the struggle that lay before it. My love for Disney isn’t as big as it used to be, but this documentary looks absolutely amazing. I’m always interested in creative struggles and to watch the team (including Tim Burton) behind some of the best animated movies ever at work should make for some lasting images. Let’s hope they include some sing-a-long’s.
