NobodyBeats the Drum – Grindin’

So many friends shared this with me today, that i wanted to post it. Colored wooden blocks, that’s all you need. And a lot of time, and patience and skill. I love the way the shapes are made, reminds me of a trippy tetris game. This could’ve been done in a 3d program, but i’m glad it’s stopmotion. You can see the paint on the wood and it all feels warmer because of it.

The Morning Benders – Excuses

Music from The Morning Benders
Video by Yours Truly
You’ve got to love the wall of sound. All these instruments, people playing in unison. Layering the song with a tiny part played by each of them. All gathered in a small studio, adding up to a sound none of them can make alone.

Space, the final frontier, the blackness. Such food for thought, imagination and dreams. But also of hard cold science, numbers, formula’s. These designs have both, the coldness of science and the dreams of ever reaching all these planets, what’s your fave?

Impactist – Leo’s Song

Video and music by Impactist
This video is very warm, like a child’s drawing and imagination. A pyramid doing the groceries, why not? Lovely how the story of the video uses the music played. I can image them (the video is made by a married couple) playing guitar and making up the story. Music without lyrics can do that to you, creating images in your mind that, when drawn out, look silly. Lik a great idea you thought up the night before that when read in daylight seem absolute nonsense.

Koki Tanaka – Everything is Everything

Video by Koki Tanaka
Randomness can create beautiful images. On the street and in nature you can be an observer of a small moment that just feels perfect. My friend Yuri has his camera ready at all times to capture these moments. He stops and sees a weird sign, a brick laying in the street that doesn’t quite belong there or nature colliding with man made buidings. This video reminded me of his observations. Random objects that create almost poetic images. The sound is as important here, making it all about the object falling, floating, breaking. The tension created by a umbrella being opened, coat hangers being stretched; you want to know what happens next. It’s also quite funny in it’s random absurdity.

Jonathon Boulet – Community Service Announcement

Music from Jonathan Boulet
Video by Special Problems
Being underwater takes me back to childhood. I loved staying underwater as a kid, as it was such a surreal experience, no sounds, slow movement, being closed off to what happens above. You’re really alone with you thoughts there. This video starts underwater, slow movement, shoelaces floating with the tide. It’s so nicely shot, a lot of attention to detail and just a beautiful image. The rest of the video leads up to this, and is filled with weird pixelcolored heads and shapes (something rebellious) and running, alot of running. And then the underwater again. It struck a cord with me because as a kid i loved to escape the running, the shouting, the noise of outside by going under water.

Huskey Rescue – Sound of Love

Music from Huskey Rescue
Video by wearekasino
There is something no quite right with this video. She sings about love, but she doesn’t give me a warm feeling, she gives me the creeps. That might be the video’s doing, the way it’s set up; they meant it to be surreal, a bit wrong. The alien balloons, the way he moves in the video and the singer coming in and out of view when the chorus hits. The music by itself is warmer, maybe even hopefull, but together with this video, it’s a whole different feeling. Maybe that’s why I like it, or because the first few notes remind me of Sigur Ros.

El Perro Del Mar – Change of Heart

Music from El Perro Del Mar
Video by Filip Nilsson
I’m not a big fan of the circus, but acrobats have always facinated me. The way they control their bodies, make it do things that seem impossible to us, and that weird combination of athletics and art. Calling them freaks might be a bit too much, but you have to be a bit crazy to take your body to such extremes. Enter these two strong men that are slowly moving from one weird gravity defying position to another. It’s that movement that struck me, so serene, so beautiful. Like these two men are trapped in time, doing this forever until eternity. The music gives the whole peformance something strange, something sad, like they can’t speak; only communicate trough the shapes they make together. How they hold eachother, touching, letting go, holding. It gives them a brotherly relationship.
